The Bata Shoe Museum

This sunny Sunday many of us had the opportunity to spend our early afternoons at the unique and iconic Bata Shoe Museum.

We began with an informal lecture/discussion with Suzanne Petersen, Collections Manager at the Bata Shoe Museum, where we learned about the history and the ins and outs of the museum.

Suzanne then took us for a private tour of their newest and fascinating exhibition “Art & Innovation: Traditional Arctic Footwear from the Bata Shoe Museum Collection”. Highlights of the exhibit include the clever design of the exhibition’s staging and these shoes made out of ducks!

Around 1pm we were able to attend a presentation by the award-winning quiltmaker Veronica Puskas.

Mrs. Puskas shares the surprising story of her beautiful quilt, Pillars of Strength, honouring her Inuit mother and grandmother and their struggles.

Following the talk we conversed in the upper hallway for some delightful tea and sweets and then explored the rest of the museum.

Bonus! An astronaut boot!
