Arts Ahead 2022

Our symposium offered a diverse range of speakers who engaged participants in meaningful and relevant topics and discussions. The symposium facilitated an environment for artists and arts managers alike to make connections with other like-minded individuals. This event was delivered through an online platform.

What is Arts Ahead

Arts Ahead is a capstone symposium coordinated by the postgraduate students in the Arts Management program at Centennial College. Though we each stem from different disciplines, we are united in our passion for facilitating safe spaces that encourage critical thinking and forward action in the arts and culture sector.

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen and broaden the arts community through critical, creative, and collaborative measures regarding our futures and responsibilities as arts workers and audiences. We must find ways to reconnect meaningfully during the biggest disruption of our lifetime.

About 2022 Symposium

The 2022 symposium — Reawakenings: Art as a Catalyst — was delivered through an online platform.

Our topics of discussion included:

  • Art Uprising: Creative Dissent in the 21st Century – focusing on activism and how art is being used as a method to dissemble oppressive structures within our communities.
  • Introspection: Emerging from Isolation with New Perspectives – A workshop and talk with Mary Krohnert of Living Room Community Art Studio, in which we will be focusing on the act of reconnecting with one another after a period of isolation.
  • Technological Trends: Artistic Freedom in a Digital Space – A panel discussion featuring artists and innovators who will share their experiences working with digital technologies and its benefits and consequences.
  • Professional Pathway: Responding to Roadblocks & Career Changes – A workshop and talk for emerging arts professionals, focusing on networking techniques and creative entrepreneurship.
  • Optional Networking Social:  Say hello, share contact info, and get to know your fellow aspiring and established arts managers!
